USA: The King's speech at Enger Tower

Speech given by His Majesty King Harald at Enger Tower, Duluth, Minnesota during an official visit to the United States 13 - 22 October 2011.

Distinguished guests, Dear friends,

Standing here, I can easily understand why so many Norwegian immigrants decided to settle in this area, by the splendid shores of Lake Superior. They must have missed Norway and those they left behind, but I am sure they found comfort in this peaceful and beautiful landscape.

Thanks to the recent extensive restoration work, Enger Tower will continue to be a symbol of the hard work and dedication of the Norwegian immigrants, and their stories will continue be told to future generations of Americans.

It is a great honor to be here today, to celebrate Enger Tower and to commemorate Bent Enger, one of thousands of Norwegian immigrants who have contributed so much to the United States.

For me personally, it is very moving to be here, since the tower was dedicated to my parents, Crown Prince Olav and Crown Princess Martha, in 1939.

I wish you all the best! Thank you for a wonderful day in Duluth!

Tusen takk!
