State visit to Finland: Luncheon in Oulu

Speech given by His Majesty The King at an official luncheon in Oulu during Their Majesties The King and Queen's state visit to Finland 6 - 8 September 2016.

Dear Hosts,
Minister and Mrs. Rehn,
Ladies and gentlemen

The Queen and I are very grateful for the warm way you have received us. The large delegation we bring, is a sign of our interest in Oulu and this part of Finland.

It is in the North that we are neighbors. We share your interest in expanding cooperation across our common border – it is highly beneficial for both of our countries.

The visit at the university has left us impressed. Your large student population, your high quality research, and your strong business culture is very promising for the future.

You are building strong connections with Northern Norway in particular. The Queen and I wish you well. We are since long taken in by Northern Norway ourselves. We believe that you will find eager and competent partners there.

This afternoon we will have a chance to learn more about the prospects for our business ties and our health cooperation. But right now we are still enjoying the excellent lunch that you have prepared for us.

Thank you again for your kind hospitality, for your interest in Norway, and for being such good neighbors!
