Princess Ingrid Alexandra's confirmation: The Princess' speech of thanks
Your Majesties, Your Royal Highnesses,
My dearest Grandmother and Grandfather,
My dear family – and all of you who are here today,
I would like to begin by thanking the President of the Storting, the Prime Minister, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and my childminders for coming today.
I would also like to thank all of my godparents for being here. It means a lot that you would travel all this way for my confirmation.
This is a special day for me. Thank you so much for all the nice things you have said to me – and for this wonderful celebration.
This is an opportunity for me to thank many of you who are an important part of my life, and who have helped to make this such a wonderful day:
I would first like to give extra special thanks to my closest family members. You gave me a safe and secure childhood filled with love, caring and happy experiences. I realise that I am very fortunate.
Thank you, Mamma and Pappa. Thank you for raising me. Thank you for everything I have learned from you, and for helping me to become the person I am today.
Thank you, Marius and Magnus, for being the world’s sweetest and best brothers – sometimes. And our dogs, Milly and Muffins, who are the world’s best dogs.
I want to thank my grandmother and grandfather for allowing me to have my confirmation here. I would also like to thank both of you for all you have taught me, and for all the special times we have had together.
Grandpa, you have taught me many important things. I think I inherited many of your qualities, like a very strong competitive instinct, though of course some of that comes from Mamma’s side of the family as well. I would especially like to thank you for all the times you have made me laugh. And all those great selfies.
Grandma Sonja, I would like to thank you for all you have taught me. Sayings, for example, like “A young house doesn’t need support” or “The man didn't know his wife was crazy till she sang at the table” which we don’t really understand.
I want to thank you for all the arts and culture you have shown me. And for my sculpture park, which has turned out to be so beautiful. Thank you for all the trips you have taken with Maud and me. But most of all, I want to thank you for all the evenings you’ve stroked my arm and told goodnight stories.
I would like to thank my dear Grandma Marit for always being there. And for the thousands of pancakes you’ve made for us. For teaching me how to bake the world’s best cream cake, “blaudis”. You have driven us to and from day care, school and sports training. Even though driving isn’t really your strong suit.
Thank you for always being with us when Mamma and Pappa have been out travelling. You’ve been a big part of my life. Thanks for all the interesting stories and for taking us on walks and down to the cabin. Thank you very much for taking care of us.
I would also like to thank Karoline and the other leaders of the Asker Church congregation who created such a great instruction programme. I have really enjoyed my confirmation classes there, and have gotten to know a lot of people.
Thank you so much to the Bishop for the meaningful confirmation service here today – and for allowing Karen and me to contribute to the church services at Tøyen Church. I would also like to thank the Praeses for the tour of Nidaros Cathedral this summer.
Once again I wish to express how grateful I am to everyone who wanted to be with me today. You have helped to make this a lovely, special day that I will always remember.
