Oath of Allegiance ceremony
His Majesty King Haakon VIII will swear an oath of allegiance to the Constitution before the Storting on Tuesday 1 September at 13:00.
The new monarch takes the following oath:
“I promise and swear that I will govern the Kingdom of Norway in accordance with its Constitution and Laws; so help me God, the Almighty and Omniscient.” (As set out in Article 9 of the Constitution.)
Her Majesty Queen Mette-Marit and Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra will accompany His Majesty The King. Queen Sonja and Prince Sverre Magnus will be present inthe Storting Chamber to watch The King take the oath.
Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra is to give a similar oath of allegiance to the Constitution in writing. The Crown Princess will give her oath in writing at the Palace later on Tuesday, after The King has sworn his oath. At the first meeting of the Council of State after this, the new King will inform the Council that the Crown Princess has signed the oath and it has been presented to the Storting.
