The funeral of King Harald V

The coffin will be accompanied by His Majesty The King, Her Majesty The Queen, Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Ingrid Alexandra and members of the Royal Family, as well as visiting royals, heads of state and prime ministers, representatives of the official Norway and representatives of The Royal Court.

At 13:00, the funeral service for King Harald V will take place at Oslo Cathedral. The service will be led by Preses (Presiding Bishop) Olav Fykse Tveit and will follow the Church of Norway's order of service for funerals. The Bishop of Oslo, Sunniva Gylver, will also take part. Music will play an important role in the service. Cathedral Organist Marcus André Berg will lead the musical programme together with the Oslo Cathedral Choir.

At the beginning of the service, there will be one minute of silence throughout the country, marked by three strokes of the bells at the beginning and end. The President of the Storting (the Norwegian Parliament) and the Prime Minister will deliver memorial addresses. There will be a candle-lighting ceremony involving representatives of different faiths and beliefs.

King Harald's family and close friends will be present. The official Norway will be represented, together with guests representing King Harald's life and work. Royal guests and heads of state from several countries will also attend.

Following the funeral service, the coffin will be carried in procession to the Palace Chapel at Akershus Fortress. A private ceremony for the family will be held in the Palace Chapel. Members of royal families from other countries will also attend, as will the President of the Storting, the Prime Minister and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, representing the official Norway.

The coffin will be lowered into the crypt of the Palace Chapel, where the sarcophagi of King Haakon, Queen Maud, King Olav and Crown Princess Märtha are also located.

Following the ceremony at the Palace Chapel, His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen will come out into the courtyard at Akershus Fortress. The flags that have been flying at half-mast at Akershus Fortress will be raised to the top of the mast, and a double royal salute will be fired. At the same time, church bells throughout the country will ring for one hour.

The Royal Family will return by car to the Royal Palace along the same route as the procession.

Upon their return to the Royal Palace, Norway's new king and queen and other members of the Royal Family will appear on the Palace Balcony at a time to be announced later.

Their Majesties The King and Queen will host a reception at the Royal Palace following the funeral service. Representatives of the official Norway, visiting heads of state, visiting royals and the family will attend.
